By the way, where in the Bible does it say the "Jehovah has positioned the slave"? Isn't this going beyond scripture?

All I can say is... Wow! How straightforward do they get with these Bethelites! It's amazing how people can get caught up with things and start to throw reason out the window.
Of course, none of this is on the "offical" record. Does anybody know of any Bethelites on the inside leaking information? I would love to hear a recording of one of these "pep" talks. Just curious. -

Well, just remember that if you rant and rave on that website only about 5 people are going to see it.

Self-intro, newbie questions
by Nara ini've been "cruising" the boards for two months now, and there appears to be a lot of very knowledgeable and "cool" individuals here.. i recently embarked on a introductory bible-study with the jws in my area.
i know that probably isn't music to most of your ears, but rest assured that i'm not remotely sold on their theology.
nor am i blind to the past scandals and current issues of the wtbts--i've read about four different scholarly works about the society.. i was raised as a lutheran, and i've had a decent amount of bible-schooling in the lutheran denomination.. my questions to you, those who would know, are these:.

Something I wish I would have done BEFORE I became a witnesses is to study some of the more radical beliefs and call them out on them. Everything you are told in these Bible studies ends up at the old "so everything we believe is based on the bible, and nothing else". There are very many beliefs the Witnesses hold that ARE NOT based on the Bible, or are very strange interpretations that can be refuted eaisly. To really see what the witnesses are about, call them out on these teachings they are not so eaisly ready to defend, It will give you insight into the mindset of the organizations members and the overall picture of who the Witnesses are.
- Do research on Daniel chapter 4. The Witnesses hold that this chapter gives a chronology that proves we are in the last days. They feel the tree in the dream refers to not only nebuchadnezzar, but also points to when Christ would be enthroned. The evidence that the tree refers to anything other than nebuchadnezzar is very weak, in probing them about this you will see that it is more than what the Bible really teaches, and that most Witness just accept this without question.
-Ask for copies of their Revelation book as well as their Daniel book. Scan through the pages of these books. You will see that they take Bible prophecy as having major fullfillment in their organization. Do these things go beyond scripture? Do reasearch on them, you will be suprised at what you find.
Those are just two things, but I think they are a great start. These are what I call some of the "hidden" teachings the WTS holds that only are found out about usually AFTER an individual has allready become a JW. I think you will find this type of research very insightful. Alot of the other suggestions here are great as well. Good luck to you! -

Why were you "sure" the JW's had the truth when you joined?
by JH inthis thread is for those who joined on their own....not those who grew up as jw's and dragged into it.... in my case, they seemed to be alone preaching the good news of the kingdom to be on earth and heaven.
they called god jehovah or yhwh.
they preached door to door like mathew 24:14 said.

Because it just made "sense".
Like many others, I joined as a result of an excited emotional response to the message that is put forth in their publications. I was very impressed at the Bible knowledge that many of the Witnesses had, especially those I studied with. I questioned them a few times on various points, but never really went any further. They gave me all the answers I needed to know.
It's funny how things work out. The same excitement for the Bible study and the desire to find truth is what brought me into their organization. It was those same things years later that caused me to rethink all I had been taught and accepted and finally come to the conclusion that the Witnesses do not have the truth.
The frame of mind you take on when you become a Witnesses becomes one of acceptance, not of choice. At the start you choose to believe what you are told, but eventually you simply start accept doctrine and teachings without question. The Society wants you to stop thinking on your own at a certain point and let you hand over the power of choice to them. I finally came to the conclusion that my life is going to be more than just acceptance of what another man tells me is the truth. -

You can get the entire studies in the scriptures package as reprinted by the (modern?) Bible students who still hold to what C.T. wrote. I found them on amazon.com, you can copy and past this link

This is for PMJ.
People have allways held various ideas as to what everlasting life will be like. Many have speculated about such things, coming up with various theories that seem to explain what is going to be the future of our existance. One thing when doing my Bible research I have allways found amazing:
THE BIBLE SIMPLY DOSN"T GET INTO THE DETAILS.
Can you find on full chapter that talks about nothing except what everlasting life will be like? People in Bible times had their opinions of what it would be like and so do we, but can anybody say for sure that they know everthing about Gods purposes (if of course you believe in God). At times I have said to myself, why donsn't the Bible get into more detail about this or that. Why are we left to wonder? What about this and what about that. Boo Hoo Hoo :( I have finally come to the conclusion that everlasting life is everlasting life and if you choose to believe in the Bibles promise of it then there really isn't much more that you have to worry about. Are you affraid that God won't give you eternal life because you didn't understand what it would be like? We need to believe in faith of the promise, not in the details as stated by men. -

I read one Bible commentator that evaluated this scripture as meaning that every christian denomination has members that are faithful to God and members who are not and that this verse sybolises how those that would be found acceptable from god would come from the various religions because God dosn't look at relgions he looks at the individual. In essence, no matter what race we are or where we come from we can all be counted worthy. That's why the scripture breaks the 144,000 down to the twelve tribes.
Although it's just one explanation for the scripture I have foudn it an interesting point worth considering. One that would never even be considered by the Watchtower.
